We’re committed to the well-being of animals in our supply chain and believe that proper animal care practices are based on science and ethical obligations and values. This belief stems from our responsibility toward our customers and the environment as stated in our CR Principles. While we don’t raise animals or own or operate processing facilities, we’re committed to responsibly sourcing our meat, poultry, dairy and egg products. We want to work with suppliers who share this commitment and understand we will not tolerate animal abuse or neglect throughout our supply chain. As part of our commitment, we established an ALDI Animal Welfare Policy that applies to all beef, pork, poultry, egg and dairy products and non-food products like textiles and bedding and health and beauty products, cleaners and detergents.
Our Animal Welfare Policy outlines several commitments including our support for the elimination of tail docking, and prohibiting our suppliers from using mulesing method for products made from merino wool. Additionally, we are committed to transitioning 100% of our eggs to cage-free by 2025, based on available supply, affordability, regulatory changes, and consumer demand. While there are a variety of factors that go into making this transition, we are continuing to partner with suppliers who share our commitment.
