Fish & Seafood

We’re committed to responsibly sourcing our ALDI-exclusive brand seafood. Our approach is based on sourcing fish and shellfish products from responsibly managed fisheries and farms that have minimal impacts on the wider marine environment and are committed to human rights and fair labor practices throughout the supply chain.

Many ALDI brand products include information about their production. This includes information about the production method (e.g., wild-caught or farmed) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Catchment Area for wild-caught seafood, or Country of Origin for farmed seafood. Certifications

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an international nonprofit organization that works with scientists, fisheries, industry experts and other nonprofits to end overfishing around the globe by incentivizing sustainable fishing practices.

Better Aquaculture Practice (BAP) is a certifying body that advocates the safe and responsible production of farmed seafood. Focusing on four key areas, environmental, social, food safety and animal health & welfare, they advocate for each step of the aquaculture production chain.

GlobalG.A.P. certification covers key areas of sustainability in aquaculture. With focuses on food safety, animal welfare, environment and traceability throughout all stages of production, producers can provide consumers with reassurance that their seafood is farmed responsibly. In May we joined the Aquaculture Technical Committee of the GlobalG.A.P., which enables us to promote improvements though dialogue with industry members.

Aquaculture Stewardship Council seeks to transform aquaculture to be environmentally and socially responsible using third party auditing and external groups to assess that seafood is being produced as responsibly as possible. Among the strictest in the industry, these standards include hundreds of requirements, such as water quality, responsible sourcing of feed, disease prevention, animal welfare, the fair treatment and pay of workers and maintaining positive relationships with neighboring communities.

We have supported the development and are now piloting the Responsible Fishing Vessel Standard (RFVS). This voluntary standard is a global fishing vessel-based certification program, which enables fishing operations to provide assurance of decent working conditions and operational best practice from catch to shore.
