Carbon Footprint

A carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that our business operations create. We're one of the fastest-growing retailers in the country, but we are making sure our carbon emissions don’t grow with us. To measure our carbon footprint, we look at things like leaked refrigerants, transportation and business vehicle miles, and electric and gas used in our national and divisional offices, stores and warehouses.

Our Carbon Footprint Goals

Big steps toward a smaller carbon footprint

  • Brightly.eco ranked ALDI as the No. 1 most sustainable grocery retailer among popular U.S. stores.
  • Our EPA GreenChill Partnership focuses on adopting green technologies to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • In 2021, the ALDI South Group reported an absolute carbon footprint reduction of 54% since 2016.

Several of our regional distribution centers, as well as our corporate headquarters in Batavia, Illinois, have begun adding electric vehicle charging stations.
