Refrigeration

We are continually investing in environmentally friendly refrigeration systems to minimize environmental damage potential. Our continued transition to natural refrigerants has lowered our potential carbon emissions damage average per store by over 50% since 2015.

Our Refrigeration Goals

We’re paving the way for the US market to adopt low emission refrigeration systems.

  • To date ALDI has over 800 stores nationwide using environmentally friendly refrigerants helping ALDI avoid 60% of potential carbon emissions each year
  • Our natural refrigerants reduce the impact of a leak by up to 4,000 times that of other refrigerants.
  • Announced industry leading goal to transition to natural refrigerants across all U.S. stores before the end of 2035.

GreenChill. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Advanced Refrigeration Partnership.

For the sixth consecutive year, ALDI received recognition from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) GreenChill Store Certification Program for its leadership in reducing refrigerant emissions. ALDI secured more EPA certifications at the platinum level - the highest certification - than all participating U.S. grocery retailers for the third year in a row. Additionally, the EPA awarded 164 ALDI stores in 23 states with GreenChill Store Re-Certification Excellence, recognizing these locations for five consecutive years of platinum level certifications. GreenChill Certification is awarded to stores that replace standard commercial refrigerants with environmentally friendlier refrigerants that keep their greehouse gas emissions as close to zero as possible.
