As one of the fastest-growing retailers in the country, ALDI is committed to advancing science-based sustainability goals to lower our impact on the environment. Being a smarter grocer means more than just maintaining the affordability of our products; it means helping build strong communities and responsibly sourcing products our customers can feel good about purchasing. We proudly committed to eliminate all plastic shopping bags from stores by the end of 2023 and we’re the first major U.S. retailer to enact this change! We have also pledged, by 2025, to achieve zero waste in operations through innovative donations and organic recycling programs and are leading the industry with nearly 500 stores using carbon cutting refrigerants and increased our supply chain transparency. These tangible steps, and others found in our 2021 progress report, prove that we have made significant strides in the last year towards meeting our goals.

Update: We announced a new commitment to eliminate plastic bags from all 2,200 stores by the end of 2023! ALDI is the first major U.S. retailer to announce this monumental pledge, which is estimated to remove 4,400 tons of plastic from circulation every single year.
