Chemical Management

Since 2015, we have been committed to reducing our chemical footprint in manufacturing. We’ve introduced comprehensive chemical management across all tiers of the supply chain, for both textiles and footwear, to continue to encourage our suppliers to practice sustainable manufacturing processes. We’re proud to provide our customers with products that meet strict chemical management requirements.

Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals

In 2015, ALDI committed to the Greenpeace Detox Initiative, along with 23 other companies, and have since transitioned to ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals certification and testing program). The ZDHC MRSL list defines the substances that should be avoided in the production of merchandise intended for ALDI. The ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines define maximum levels of chemicals within wastewater and sludge generated by the production facilities.

Additionally, Chemical Management Audits (CMAs) help to improve the processes in the production facilities used for ALDI products.

We are incorporating the chemical management performance of our suppliers into our Corporate Responsibility Supplier Evaluation (CRSE) for garment textiles and shoes, supporting long-term relationships with business partners who demonstrate strong sustainability records and continuous improvement.

Transparency in Supply Chains: Textiles & Shoes

In order to offer greater transparency to our customers, we publish the addresses of all our main production facilities and their number of employees used in the manufacturing of shoes and textiles. This information is organized by country and is updated bi-annually. We are also an official contributor to the Open Apparel Registry (OAR).
